Why people leave your website

A nice little article, including video footage, which highlights 5 common usability problems. I particularly like the points that are the real fundamentals, underlining what happens when you're not 100% clear about what your site is there to do.

usertesting.com's 5 reasons:
  1. Decide what are the most important things you want users to do. Then make these things prominent and easy
  2. When asking the user to take time to do something, answer the user’s question: “What’s in it for me?”
  3. Arrange text so people can “scan” before they “read,” or they probably won’t
  4. Test your forms (like checkout) for functional problems
  5. Clearly communicate what your site does, and why people should use it compared to the “other guys”
