Keep online surveys & forms short as possible

There are always exceptions with particular audiences and scenarios, but the general rule seems to be the longer your form or survey, the less likely people are to complete it. And if they do they spend less time thinking about later questions.

I've picked on a few UK usability companies who have published case studies of what they've done for their clients. These are nice, succinct stories of what can be achieved when adopting a user-focused approach for your website development or enhancement project.

They've been producing these for 6 years now. Previous years' calendars are worth a look too. Lots of tips to try and keep in the forefront of your mind, and one or two may raise a smile.

Web-based prototyping tools reviewed

This article from Bunnyfoot covers a range of online prototyping tools available at the moment.

There are four reviewed: Mockflow, iPlotz, Balsamiq and Mockingbird.

I had a play with Mockingbird last month. If anyone has experience of the others, leave a comment.

Eyetracking - when is it worth doing?

A useful article on the pros and cons of eyetracking, from a London-based usability company. They're obviously selling their service, but it's an upfront and worthwhile appraisal.

Webcredible also wrote an article on the downturn in demand for eyetracking studies they've experienced in 2009. Again, an interesting appraisal of why this might be, plus a bit of video footage of an eyetracking session which may be of interest if you've never seen this kind of thing before.
