User testing questions to avoid

A really useful article to improve your usability testing technique. It's so easy to ask leading questions; Jared Spool highlights 3 big no-nos.

As well as explaining why you shouldn't ask these questions, and telling a story around each to make his point, Jared goes on to suggest alternatives which should be a great help.

Jared's big 3 questions you shouldn't ask:
  • Ask about the future
  • Ask how the user would design a feature
  • Ask by providing their reason
I certainly find the third one the hardest to avoid in the course of a session when I've been close to the design process...
